Terminal operating system for intermodal terminals

One system for gate, train dispatch, transhipment, yard and billing. Modular licensing, operated in the EU, built on more than 25 years of terminal practice.

What is smartTOS?

Terminal software instead of isolated tools

smartTOS is the innovative, cloud-based terminal software for intermodal terminals. It captures every movement where it happens and makes it visible straight away to everyone who works with it next.

You start with what your terminal needs today and extend it while running. The system is operated around the clock, either in the EU cloud or in your own infrastructure.

  • Modular licensing
  • EU cloud or on-premise
  • Operated 24/7

Basics

What is a terminal operating system?

A terminal operating system brings arrival, handling, storage and departure of every loading unit together in one system. Gate, train dispatching, yard management, handling equipment and billing work off the same stock, in real time instead of in three lists kept side by side.

For an intermodal terminal, something else matters than for a container port: rail is a core process, not a side topic, and implementation takes weeks instead of years.

  • One data set for gate, crane, dispatch and billing
  • Rail as a core process, not an add-on module
  • EDI standards out of the box instead of as a development project

Modules & features

Every function where it happens at the terminal

From the pre-gate parking area to billing: smartTOS accompanies every loading unit through your terminal. The interactive overview shows you, area by area, which role works with which screen.

Why smartTOS

Terminal software from 25 years of practice: intuitive, modular, SaaS

25+ years of terminal experience

Built by a team that has kept terminal systems running in live operation for more than 25 years. Operation, development and support come from a single source: data held in the EU, active security screening and round-the-clock monitoring, under ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified processes.

Intuitive application design

Screens that dispatchers, gate staff and crane operators use without a manual. That keeps the training effort low across every shift; the rollout ends with train-the-trainer.

Modular and delivered as SaaS

The scope runs from the gate to billing, and you license what your terminal uses. Extensions happen while running, without a second project. Scalable operation in the EU cloud or on-premise, maintenance and updates included.

How smartTOS works

A day at the terminal, digital end to end

Every loading unit runs through one system: captured digitally at the gate and at the track, visible in real time in the yard and in the crane, billed without re-entering anything. No media break, no second list.

01

Upstream

Pre-notification

Inbound and booking data enters the system via interfaces or through the self-service portal. You know what is coming before the train rolls in or the truck arrives at the gate.

02

Arrival: gate-in, self-check-in and wagon check

Truck handling via reference numbers, driver self-check-in and mobile damage inspection. At the track, the mobile wagon check takes over the digital inbound inspection of the train, wagon by wagon.

03

Transhipment & yard

Lifting orders arrive directly on the crane or reach-stacker terminal, loading units are positioned with geo-references. Stock levels are accurate in real time.

04

Dispatch: train departure and truck pick-up

Wagon lists, loading and outgate are documented digitally. Collecting trucks only leave the terminal once the pick-up and release references have been checked.

05

Downstream

Billing & reporting

Lifts, storage days, inspections and repairs have already been captured during operations and flow automatically into billing, usually at month end. Standard reports make utilisation, dwell times and volumes per customer visible.

In daily use

Wagon check, documentation and KPIs on one device

From the wagon check at train arrival through pictures and documents on the loading unit to the KPI dashboard: one interface, no export and no second system.

The team

Behind smartTOS are people who know terminals

A team of specialists based in Vienna that has been building and running terminal systems for more than 25 years. They know the pressure when the train pulls in at five in the morning, and the question of where exactly that one container is. These are the people you reach when you roll out smartTOS.
